My Last Day in Los Angeles

I started the day at the Grammy Awards Museum. Some of it was tacky but I think it is one of the better museums in LA. They had lots of Michael Jackson’s flamboyant outfits on display. Many of them look like army general outfits covered with colored sequins, gold and glitter. Was it all necessary?

After a dirty burger I went back to Hollywood to take a picture of the sign. That’s all…

They do love their mannequins and wax models. I think I have developed a phobia especially if they are animatronics with dodgy lip movements. You just want to rugby tackle them or pretend to hump one giving it a cowboy slap screaming yeeha! That would be more entertaining for tourists, in my mind.

The evening started with a cheeky couple of beers in the hotel bar. I then thought I’d find a dirtier joint and try to meet some locals. I saw a sign reading ‘Drinkability? The Congo Room’. Fantastic, I can listen to Congo’s all night and answers the question. I walked in and a country and western band was playing so I walked out. Next was ‘The Lucky Strike’ which was a bowling alley with a huge bar and lots of LCD screens everywhere. No totty, just extra large old men analysing each other’s bowling techniques. Bender! That is what I heard one guy say to another after a bowl. I laughed and then left.

By this time I think I had 6 beers and I was feeling a little wobbly due to my messed up body clock. I thought I would try one last bar and so I stumbled across the Yard House. Awooga! I wish I started there. The barman said they have over 130 beers on tap, over 160 taps and rack space for over 300 yard glasses. I was spoilt for choice and a gibbering wreck with excitement so I asked for a surprise, a random pint. He said in his Mexican/American accent. ‘Say what buddy, a surprise. You English are funny’. I looked down and he slapped a Budweiser on a napkin…

I had a great giggle and it was the first time I got to chat to some random’s on my travels. I was singing Mary Poppins songs with a couple from Texas at the end of the evening.
